Mary Jane Lacke VIEW PROFILE

Mary Jane Lacke, 89, passed away at 11:00 am Sunday, November 4, 2018 at her home.

She was born on May 21, 1929 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Thomas P. and Jessie Bowen Riley.

Mary Jane married Paul Lacke on April 11, 1953 in Johnstown, PA. He preceded her in death.

Mary Jane graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a reporter for the Johnstown News-Democrat until marriage.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Alton where she served as Deacon. She was a member of the Ninian Edwards Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts of the USA, having served as Brownie Leader, Neighborhood Chairman, and First Vice President in the River Bluffs Council.  Her hobbies included painting, reading historical non-fiction, genealogy, and playing games with her grandchildren.

Surviving are son, Paul R. (Yoko), daughter, Nancy Matis (Jeff); grandchildren, Satomi Lacke (Kousuke Takeshima), Naomi Lacke (Shuji Imura), Konomi Lacke, Daniel Matis, Nicole Matis; great grandchildren, Sara and Teruma Imura; nephews, Ty, David (Terri), and Kent Riley; niece Robin (Otis) Page.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas B. Riley

Visitation was on Saturday, November 24 at First Presbyterian Church of Alton at noon until memorial service began at 1 p.m. with Reverend Janet Riley officiating.

Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Alton or Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois.
