Paul Lacke

GODFREY — Paul E. Lacke, 91, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at his home.

He was born on December 6, 1925 in Chicago, the son of William Albert and Magdalen Dorrans Lacke.

Paul married Mary Jane Riley on April 11, 1953 in Johnstown, PA. She survives.

Paul joined the Navy in 1944, was commissioned Ensign USNR, June 1946 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Dartmouth College, June 1946 and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1948 from the same college.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Alton where he served as Elder and Trustee, Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, served as Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts. He retired from Monsanto corporate engineering in 1990. Prior to that, he was chief engineer at Alton Box Board, electrical superintendent at Laclede Steel, field engineer for Square D Company, and electrical engineer for Bethlehem Steel. His favorite hobbies were painting, genealogy, computers, and being Granddad.

Also surviving are son, Paul R. (Yoko), daughter, Nancy Matis (Jeff); grandchildren, Satomi Lacke (Kousuke Takeshima), Naomi Lacke (Shuji Imura), Konomi Lacke, Daniel Matis, Nicole Matis; great grandchildren, Sara and Teruma Imura; nephew, Jay Lacke (June); nieces, Nancy Stewart, Suzanne Lacke (Gordon Godbersen).

In addition to his parents Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Warren and sisters Ruth McClure, Alice Stitt, and Geraldine Shelton.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 7 at First Presbyterian Church of Alton at noon until memorial service begins at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Crowley officiating. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Alton. Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey is in charge of the arrangements.
