Youth Groups

Youth Group meets each Friday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. During the months of October, November and December, Youth groups make and sell chocolate bark and peppermint bark as a fund-raiser for our Youth activities and missions. We put up our Hat & Mitten Tree, which collects donations of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, stuffed animals, new socks (adult & children) and underwear (children) that are later given away to guests of the Saturday Cafe and those picking up Thanksgiving Baskets. We have a number of "harvests" from the tree during the Fall and Advent seasons. Thank you for your continued generosity!

Working at 5 A's Animal Rescue in Alton and the Saturday Cafe at First Presbyterian

The Youth started the Saturday Cafe, a "soup kitchen" offering lunch every second Saturday of the month, as their mission. The cafe is partially funded by sales from Abraham's Tent (see Mission & Outreach), a church mission shop located in the fellowship hall at First Church, as well as donations from church members and a grant from the Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery. The tent offers "fair trade" articles from Serrv International and "Celtic" items from Creative Irish. The shop supports missions both globally and locally.

Since that time, the Saturday Cafe at First Presbyterian has grown to include serving lunch here to those in need or at the First Unitarian Church of Alton every Saturday. Other local churches and organizations have joined to become a part of this mission, serving food which is donated and prepared by their members from our kitchen.

All youth, 5th grade through high school, are welcome to join us on Friday evenings! Please call the church 618.465.3592 for more information.
